Perfumer: Harry Fremont
From the creator of CK One, the big hit that started the whole fresh abstract perfumes fashion in the 90’s.
Compare the work of the same perfumer 25 years later: layered fresh, elusive, complex and ever changing haze of dark green coriander leaves, aromatic mate tea, cool almost metallic saffron and cold rain like bracing oakmoss.

Technically tonka are nuts as they come from a tree (whereas a bean is a seed of a legume). ‘Tonka beans’ is a misnomer but also phrase used to refer to them in perfumery, cooking, etc. In Happy Nuts tonka is key note contributing to the delicious nuts roasted in caramel fragrant idea. The name could be a suggestive euphemism or just a reference to tonka being promoted to their accurate botanical rank – nuts.
MEM by Bogue Profumo £145.00
- Key notes:
- amber
- castoreum
- civet
- lavender
- vanilla
- ylang-ylang
- Aromagroups:
- aromatic
- leather
- unconventional
A challenging complex perfume with a core created around 5 different types of lavender. It's not a lavender perfume though. The purple flowered herbs are combined with absolute of Damask rose and jasmine grandiflorum together with ylang-ylang. This floral mix encounters a bizarre malt note, some Bourbon vanilla and a large group of resins and herbs. The Himalayan cedar-wood adds a bit of smoky woodiness and together with grapefruit creates a fizzy honey feeling and almost fruity edge.
MEM comes from the Indo-European word root that is at the base of many words linked to the idea of water, liquid, sea, fertility. In the Hebrew alphabet is the thirteenth letter and it means water with further meanings such as chaos, mighty, blood. Plus it has a beautiful sound and it's a palindrome word, same reading from left to right and vice-versa. This is somehow the effect of the perfume as well, really circular with no real beginning or end, masculine and feminine, dark and light, open and close...
Castoreum and civet in the formula are natural.
The absolutes are Jasmine grandiflorum from Egypt, extracted in France, Jasmine Sambac from India, rose Damascena from Bulgaria, lavender (lavandula augustifolia) from France and vanilla from Madagascar.
The other natural ingredients are ylang-ylang extra, signature Bogue’s benzoin from Thailand, Bourbon geranium from Madagascar and lavender AOP from Haute Provence.
Boutonnière no.7 by Arquiste £180.00
- Key notes:
- gardenia
- lavender
- mandarin
- oakmoss
- Aromagroups:
- aromatic
- floral
May 1899, Foyer of the Opera-Comique, Paris
A dignified and refined celebration of masculinity, Boutonniere No7 opens with fresh aromatic notes of lavender, bergamot and a subtle note of mandarin.
During the intermission 7 men gather in the Grand Foyer seeking new flirtations and encounters. A heart of crisp and green gardenia is a nod to the considered gesture of a single gardenia bloom, worn in the boutonniere (buttonhole). Indolic tinged petals jasminoides (star jasmine) mingle with the gardenia blooms, heightened by an animalic note of genet (broom shrub) absolute.
Labdanum, oakmoss, vetiver and castoreum lend salty soapy facets that contradict the smooth polished gardenia.
A genteel bouquet.

***
An intense, smoky herbal blend that, like all of Anna's creations, will transport you to an imaginary landscape.
It's inspired by Cossacks, the soldier-farmers who live in the steppes in the south of Russia, accomplished horsemen guarding the borders since the days of Catherine the Great.
You are welcome to devise your own story, but here at Bloom, we imagine a young Cossack resting among haystacks and wild herbs, smoking his clay pipe while contemplating the starry sky. His friends are sitting by the open fire nearby. Smoke is wafting through wild thyme and wormwood.

Important notice:
Anna Zworykina’s blends are olfactive smellscapes (but neither aromatherapy, nor ‘spray-and-go’ perfumes). Her blends are sensory experiences, closer to works of art created in the scented plane (rather than, say, visual or audio).
Certain essential oils and absolutes that are used in her 100% natural perfumes may potentially cause allergies in some people. Please spray Anna Zworykina’s blends on fabric (on sleeves, scarves, etc.). This said, Anna Zworykina has acquired a huge fan base over many years and people interacted with her blends for quite a while now. We are not aware of any reports of any skin reactions so far.
However, Anna advises that those who are prone to allergic reactions, pregnant and nursing women, as well as people with chronic illnesses to be extra careful. Before trying natural blends, study the list of ingredients and consult with a doctor if you are not sure or a had a history of allergies. If you do decide to put these blends on your skin (unable to resist the temptation) always test the blend on the inside part of your elbow first and wait.
Do not spray these blends liberally as a cloud in the way you would spray a conventional perfume. Anna’s smellscapes need to be… carefully applied and experienced. Be mindful that some oils can also make your skin hyper-sensitive to UV.
