Sun-drenched spring air infuses the tangle of timbers the beavers call home, inviting the family to venture from their cozy den. A sparse winter diet of dry buds and twigs gives way to a juicy salad of fresh waterlilies and leaves. The drive to build is awakened and soon the industrious carpenters are hard at work. Yet over the rustle of branches and the slapping of tails on wet mud, a hammering is heard. In a nearby maple forest, farmers tap thick trunks, creating channels through which sugar-laden sap can flow. Unfazed, the beavers toil on. In tandem they work, the beavers crafting lodges while farmers harvest sweet sap, guiding it to a sugar shack where alchemy will transform it to a rich, golden syrup.
Evoking the onset of spring, Zoologist Beaver Maple Edition combines fresh florals with the delightful sweetness of cocoa-infused maple syrup. Within smoky woods laced with earthy vetiver and patchouli, castoreum and vanilla offer a cozy haven. Like a carefully-crafted lodge of a beaver family, this scent offers warmth while hinting at hidden depths.

All about this fragrance
Vibe check
This is the warmth of coming indoors after working among damp timber: sleeves still carrying the air outside, something sweet warming nearby. The floral opening keeps the mood from feeling heavy, while maple, cocoa and smoky woods lend a comfortable, quietly earthy presence at close quarters.
How to wear
Try it in cool spring weather or autumn, when the maple, cocoa and woody warmth suit the temperature. Start with one or two sprays on skin, keeping the application restrained indoors. In warmer conditions, use a lighter dose so the fresh floral facets have room beside the sweetness.
Who it’s for
For those who enjoy gourmand fragrances with an earthy backbone rather than straightforward dessert sweetness. It suits a taste for maple and cocoa balanced by smoky timber, patchouli and a softly animalic base, with fresh florals adding contrast.

The nose
Pascal Gaurin is a perfumer at IFF whose work spans fine fragrance and experimental scent creation. A co-creator of Tom Ford Black Orchid, he is known for combining rich textures with distinctive contrasts. For Beaver Maple Edition, he brings fresh floral notes into a composition of maple sweetness, smoky woods and animalic warmth.
Zoologist’s story
Founded by Victor Wong in Toronto in 2013, Zoologist interprets animals through their habitats, habits and sensory worlds rather than reproducing their smells literally. Its fragrances embrace unusual contrasts and playful storytelling, using synthetic alternatives to animal-derived materials.
Beaver Maple Edition’s concept
Beaver Maple Edition follows Zoologist’s earlier Beaver fragrances but turns toward the spring maple harvest. Its story pairs beavers constructing lodges with farmers collecting sap nearby: fresh flowers suggest seasonal renewal, while cocoa-inflected maple, smoky woods and a warm animalic base evoke the shelter of a timber lodge.
Extra info
Despite its castoreum note, Beaver Maple Edition contains no animal products: the accord is synthetically reconstructed. The official 60 mL presentation has a 20% concentration, and its detailed palette includes carrot, blue water lily, Madagascan cocoa shell and vanilla CO₂ extract.
