Perfumer: Sven Pritzkoleit
Australian spring arrives, bearing dazzling frocks of yellow blossoms to dress the bare golden wattle trees. Clouds of sweet honeyed fragrance, caught upon the breeze, carry an invitation inland, where a flock of cockatiels happily take up the celebration. Emerging from dusty nests, the birds are ready to preen and prance. On a wobbly stage of branches, vivid crests bop to the rhythm of their joyous songs. After a final encore, the flock takes flight. Alighting in a nearby field they share a delightful brunch, buzzing with the thrill of their stunning recital.
Zoologist Cockatiel exudes joy. A sunny burst of yellow acacia offers a friendly welcome. Dots of raspberry and tart rhubarb suggest a hint of mischief, like a pair of rosy cheeks beneath a golden plume. Finally, soft notes of musk and vanilla enfold the vibrant Cockatiel, like downy feathers cushioning the brashness of this cheeky bird.
Zoologist Cockatiel was formerly known as “Powder and Dust”, a perfume created by Sven Pritzkoleit, published under his own brand, SP Parfums. The creative director of the scent was Yana Lysenko. This perfume won the 2019 Arts and Olfaction Awards under the Artisan category. In 2020, Sven closed his perfume business and sold the formula of Powder and Dust to Zoologist to continue its legacy.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
This is a scent for close, animated company rather than distance: a room where conversation is quick, gestures are expressive and the air carries a soft powdery trail. It suits someone who likes their fragrance to feel bright, a little mischievous and unmistakably textured.
How to wear
Best in mild to cool weather, where its fruity-floral brightness and powdery woods can unfold without becoming heavy. Apply sparingly at first; as an extrait, it has enough depth to project well, and a light hand lets the raspberry, acacia and musky drydown stay airy rather than dense.
Who it’s for
For wearers who enjoy unconventional florals, powdery textures and a touch of animalic warmth. It will appeal to people who like fragrances with personality: bright but not sugary, soft but not bland, and woody compositions that still feel playful.

The nose
Sven Pritzkoleit. A Finnish perfumer known for independent, concept-driven work, Pritzkoleit brings a tactile, slightly off-kilter style to his compositions: textured, atmospheric and often built around contrasts between softness and grit. His original Powder and Dust became the basis for Cockatiel, carrying his signature powdery, woody sensibility into Zoologist’s animal-fantasy world. Pritzkoleit’s work is notable for its artisanal independence and for scents that feel personal rather than formulaic. In Cockatiel, that approach translates into a bright floral-fruity opening and a dry, dusty, feather-soft finish that preserves the character of the original composition while fitting Zoologist’s more theatrical narrative.
Collaborators
Yana Lysenko served as creative director, shaping the concept and presentation of the fragrance as it moved from Powder and Dust into Zoologist’s Cockatiel. Her role was to guide the narrative and artistic framing rather than the formula itself.
Zoologist’s story
Zoologist builds fragrances as animal portraits: imaginative, characterful and often deliberately unusual. The house favors independent perfumers, synthetic materials for ethical reasons, and a playful but serious approach to storytelling that turns each scent into a small olfactory fable.
Cockatiel (Special Edition)’s concept
Cockatiel began life in 2019 as Powder and Dust, created by Sven Pritzkoleit for his own SP Parfums line. After that business closed in 2020, Zoologist acquired the formula and relaunched it in 2022 as Cockatiel, keeping the original composition while reframing it through the image of an exuberant Australian spring and a flock of preening birds.
Extra info
Originally released as Powder and Dust, the fragrance won the 2019 Arts and Olfaction Award in the Artisan category before being acquired by Zoologist. The Special Edition is no longer in production, but the formula lives on in the standard Cockatiel release.
