Perfumer: Fanny Bal

All about this fragrance
Vibe check
The pace slows as the last sun catches the glasses and conversation settles into an unhurried rhythm. Juniper’s gin-like bite and mandarin’s brightness suit this sociable, lightly dressed register, while dry woods keep the impression composed rather than sugary.
How to wear
The citrus-juniper profile suits mild to warm weather, with cedarwood and olibanum adding a dry counterweight. Start with two sprays on the neck or forearms for a restrained presence; in heat or close quarters, apply lightly to keep the peppery opening measured.
Who it’s for
For those drawn to dry, aromatic freshness rather than sweet citrus or soft musks. Its gin-like juniper, peppery sparkle and woody structure will appeal to lovers of minimalist compositions with a crisp botanical edge.
Release year
2022
The nose
Fanny Bal came to perfumery through chemistry and trained under Dominique Ropion. Her work combines clearly defined materials with contemporary contrasts of texture and intensity. In Genièvre, she interprets chilled gin through aromatic juniper, sparkling citrus and spice, grounded by cedarwood and olibanum.
Headspace’s story
Headspace connects scientific scent capture with emotional storytelling. Using headspace technology to analyze and reconstruct the air around objects, the house translates fleeting experiences into fragrances built around emblematic materials. Natural and synthetic ingredients serve the memory of a moment rather than a literal portrait of a botanical.
GENIEVRE (Juniper)’s concept
Genièvre was part of Headspace’s inaugural seven-fragrance collection. Its starting point is chilled gin shared with friends at sunset: the pause between refreshing relaxation and mild intoxication. Fanny Bal builds that impression around juniper berries, with citrus and spice supplying sparkle above a dry woody foundation.
Extra info
Genièvre is French for juniper, the material at the centre of the composition. Headspace lists its natural-origin ingredient content at 92.50%. The bottle, designed by Jules Dinand, takes inspiration from perfumers’ working vials, with a minimalist paper label and black Bakelite cap.
