One of the two fragrances created by Jean Claude Ellena to celebrate the history and craftsmanship of Grasse the cradle of modern perfume aesthetics and the royal floral couple of the region: jasmine grandiflorum and rosa centifolia.
Jasmin de Pays (the jasmine of the land) is a honeyed silky jasmine built around the most refined extract one can obtain: absolute. The grandiflorum variety historically is a Grasse specialty and has been part of the most iconic perfumes of the past and present. It is available on a very limited scale from the jasmine fields of the region.
The jasmine grandiflorum absolute is the physical tangible dimension Jasmin de Pays, but there is also the story that the perfumer wanted to tell with the formula:
“My devotion to jasmine lies with my childhood in Grasse. As a child, I used to harvest jasmine at dawn, picking the white porcelain flowers one by one, their smell was green, transparent and intoxicating. By noon, the last of the last white petals released a warm smell of orange blossom. By night, the forgotten flowers, now yellowed, emanated a happy, deep animalic fragrance. If its perfume was given rhythm by the time of day, then its nature never changed. Admiring this work of nature was my inspiration to imagine the perfume in a different way, to play with its elements and change its effects to make it unique and forever Jasmine. “
