The following are some reasons why perfumes can become unavailable:

  1. Each year, the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) issues ever-stricter safety and allergen regulations. This affects quite a few classic formulas as well as niche compositions, and sometimes brands have to discontinue a perfume if they are unable to reformulate.
  2. The brand decides to change the concentration. For example, an eau de parfum is reformulated as an extrait, effectively turning it into a different perfume.
  3. The brand ceases operating. The creative director passed away, got bored, started a new project, sold the business, etc.
  4. The brand cannot keep up with logistics and production demands, with disruptions for up to a year. If there is no regular production and availability schedule, it is not viable for a stockist to carry the brand.
  5. The brand changed the distribution model, eg from niche to duty free.

Lovebird Special Edition - Zoologist - Bloom Perfumery

In the branches of a sprawling thorn tree, a boisterous flock of lovebirds gathers, undeterred by the African savanna’s scorching heat. Cheerful chatter fills the air as they flit and weave, playfully hopping from one partner to another. Amid the lively commotion, one pair slips away to a quiet perch. Snuggling head to head, they preen one another, their affectionate chirps muffled against velvety soft feathers. The setting sun captures the intimate encounter, washing the glorious hues of the lovebirds’ intertwined plumage with a golden glow.

Zoologist Lovebird bottles the thrill of budding romance in a single spritz. It opens with a playful burst of kiwi, orange, and passionfruit, as sweet and fleeting as a first kiss. A captivating blend of ylang-ylang, lavender, lily of the valley, and heliotrope weaves an intimate connection, drawing you deeper. Finally, ambrette, musk and amber ignite a sensual embrace, leaving a warm, lingering glow of enduring love.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

Lovebird suits the moment when lively conversation becomes more personal: laughter softens, two people draw closer, and the room recedes. Its juicy fruit keeps the mood buoyant, while soft flowers and warm musk give that closeness a tender rather than overtly seductive character.

How to wear

The bright fruit and fresh aromatics suggest spring and mild summer weather, with the musky amber base adding warmth as the air cools. Start with one or two sprays on skin; restrained application lets the playful opening sit above the softer base without overwhelming a close conversation. Use a lighter hand in strong heat.

Who it’s for

For lovers of juicy fruit who want more than straightforward sweetness. Its aromatic fougère structure, floral softness and warm musky finish will appeal to those drawn to playful fragrances with a composed, intimate side.

The nose

Nathalie Feisthauer is an independent perfumer whose work spans major fragrance houses and experimental niche brands. Her repertoire includes co-creating Hermès Eau des Merveilles with Ralf Schwieger and composing État Libre d’Orange Putain des Palaces. In Lovebird, she brings vivid tropical fruit into a fougère framework, connecting its playful brightness with soft flowers and a warm musky base.

Zoologist’s story

Founded by Victor Wong in Toronto, Zoologist translates animals, their habitats and their behaviour into distinctive fragrances rather than literal wildlife smells. Its collection embraces both approachable beauty and deliberate strangeness. The house uses synthetic alternatives to animal-derived musks, and Lovebird contains no animal products.

Lovebird Special Edition’s concept

Lovebird takes its imagery from a pair of birds withdrawing from a noisy flock in an African savanna thorn tree, nestling together as sunset illuminates their feathers. Its progression from bright fruit to flowers and warm musk interprets the shift from the excitement of new romance to lasting affection.

Extra info

The green, blue and purple labels all contain exactly the same fragrance. Their stated distribution is 60%, 30% and 10%, making purple the least common presentation, not a different formula. The official designation is Special Edition; no numbered production run is specified.
