The creamy lemon-vanilla of magnolia joins forces with the gourmand glamour of a grand cru coffee liquor. Rich, sweet and deep, set aglow with a ribbon of fluffy musk.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
An unhurried afternoon conversation, with the last sip of coffee still on the table. Magnolia’s lemony brightness keeps the mood alert, while the liqueur sweetness and milky musk suggest a softer, more intimate presence as the conversation settles.
How to wear
Start with one or two sprays on skin, allowing the coffee sweetness and milky musk room to settle around the magnolia. Mild or cooler weather is a natural fit for this creamy profile; in warmer conditions, apply lightly to keep its fresh floral facets from being overshadowed by the gourmand richness.
Who it’s for
For those drawn to creamy florals and coffee fragrances, but who prefer contrast to all-out dessert sweetness. Its lemony magnolia and milky musk will appeal to tastes that favour soft textures, gourmand depth and a fresh edge within a richer composition.
Release year
2023
The nose
Jean Sauvage is Binet-Papillon’s self-taught, in-house perfumer, creating exclusively for the house. His practice develops in dialogue with founder Virginie Choné. In Magnolia Underground, he brings together coffee, magnolia and milky musk, balancing gourmand richness with a delicate floral impression.
Binet-Papillon’s story
Binet-Papillon is an independent house that reinterprets French haute parfumerie through historical materials, traditions and imagery. Its approach places emotional expression and individual scent signatures alongside environmental considerations, favouring natural ingredients while retaining a role for synthetic molecules.
No. 21 – Magnolia Underground’s concept
Magnolia Underground was conceived around a contrast of textures: delicate magnolia with creamy lemon-vanilla facets, the darker gourmand character of grand cru coffee liqueur, and a cushioning base of milky musk. Rather than a straightforward coffee fragrance, it explores the meeting of floral freshness and sweet depth.
Extra info
The official note pyramid is unusually concise: grand cru coffee at the top, magnolia at the heart and milky musk in the base. The fragrance is made in France in the house’s workshops and offered in 30 ml and 100 ml spray bottles.
