Second Skin - Anna Zworykina - Bloom Perfumery

Anna's blends are more like smell experiences or perfume escapes, pure fun for connoisseurs looking for something beyond perfumes created with the help of modern synthetic materials.

For Second Skin we wish to invent a verb “to indulce”, a mix ‘indulge’ and ‘dolce (sweet)’. The flowers in the heart (ylang-ylang, jasmine and tuberose) have been ‘indulced’ in cognac, immortelle, ambery resins and indeed sweet cloves.

Being natural only blends, Anna's perfumes have a very peculiar projection: close to skin, quiet but excitingly complex upon a closer sniff.

Please be aware that natural perfumery has to be patch tested before continual wear.

Important notice:

Anna Zworykina’s blends are olfactive smellscapes (but neither aromatherapy, nor ‘spray-and-go’ perfumes). Her blends are sensory experiences, closer to works of art created in the scented plane (rather than, say, visual or audio).

Certain essential oils and absolutes that are used in her 100% natural perfumes may potentially cause allergies in some people. Please spray Anna Zworykina’s blends on fabric (on sleeves, scarves, etc.). This said, Anna Zworykina has acquired a huge fan base over many years and people interacted with her blends for quite a while now. We are not aware of any reports of any skin reactions so far.

However, Anna advises that those who are prone to allergic reactions, pregnant and nursing women, as well as people with chronic illnesses to be extra careful. Before trying natural blends, study the list of ingredients and consult with a doctor if you are not sure or a had a history of allergies. If you do decide to put these blends on your skin (unable to resist the temptation) always test the blend on the inside part of your elbow first and wait.

Do not spray these blends liberally as a cloud in the way you would spray a conventional perfume. Anna’s smellscapes need to be… carefully applied and experienced. Be mindful that some oils can also make your skin hyper-sensitive to UV.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

The register is intimate: a conversation close enough for the floral richness beneath tea and soft leather to become apparent. Cognac and sweet spice give the scent a languid warmth, while its quiet diffusion keeps that sensuality personal rather than announcing it across the room.

How to wear

Cool weather suits its resinous warmth and dense floral heart. Start with one light spray on a sleeve or scarf, checking the fabric for staining first, rather than spraying a cloud. Expect a quiet scent that rewards proximity. The supplied guidance recommends fabric application; if applying to skin, patch-test first and be mindful of potential allergies and UV sensitivity.

Who it’s for

For lovers of textured natural perfumery who enjoy opulent white flowers softened by tea, woods and supple leather. Its cognac, clove and resinous sweetness will appeal to those seeking gourmand warmth without a simple confectionery effect, and complexity without a room-filling presence.

The nose

Anna Zworykina is an independent perfumer whose work explores the complexity of natural extracts through richly layered, handcrafted compositions. Her approach treats perfume as an artistic medium rather than a formula for broad appeal. Second Skin reflects her ingredient-led practice: its starting point was her fascination with a blend of black-tea and white-cedar absolutes.

Anna Zworykina’s story

Anna Zworykina describes her house as handcrafted perfume punk: an expression of personal freedom rather than prescribed taste. Natural extracts are an artistic choice, valued for their complexity and emotional resonance, not a declaration that synthetic materials are inferior. Her fragrances invite close, attentive exploration.

Second Skin’s concept

Second Skin began with an experiment pairing black-tea and white-cedar absolutes. Zworykina developed their unexpected affinity with honeyed immortelle, jasmine and orange blossom, creating another leather composition despite already having several in her repertoire. The result explores leather through softness and touch rather than tar or smoke, with flowers, tobacco and dried-fruit richness suggesting warmth and shelter.

Extra info

Despite its name, Second Skin is not a minimalist composition: the house classifies it as a soft leather–gourmand chypre. Bloom Perfumery coined the playful verb “to indulce,” blending “indulge” with “dolce,” to describe its flowers steeped in cognac, immortelle and sweet resins.
