In the aromatic universe, ylang-ylang exists in the planes of dark juicy green, intense vanilla and intoxicating florals.

Perris is fascinated by nature’s fragrant treasures, and make perfume materials THE story of each of their perfume. So much so, that they experiment with the same perfume material in two different perfume architectures: eau de parfum and extait.

How does this work? In Ylang Ylang Nosy Be EdP, the ylang-ylang’s floral potential is encouraged with mint and jasmine. The EdP is a rich powdery white floral.

The extrait version of Ylang Ylang Nosy Be has more happening in the base. The perfumer added more dark musk and vanilla, and this way the perfume became darker, woodier, even boozier.

As always Perris uses the best natural extracts perfumers can obtain. Their ylang-ylang comes from the tiny Nosy Be island north of Madagascar.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

This is a floral for an evening that unfolds slowly, with conversation close enough for its darker undertones to register. The lush ylang-ylang has a dressed-up, old-school presence; musk and vanilla give that radiance a more intimate, faintly boozy edge.

How to wear

Start with one or two sprays on skin, allowing the floral richness to settle before adding more. Mild to cool weather suits its substantial musk-and-vanilla base; in warmer conditions, a lighter application keeps the lush ylang-ylang from becoming overwhelming.

Who it’s for

For those drawn to opulent florals, vintage perfume textures and tropical flowers with depth rather than freshness. It particularly suits a taste for ylang-ylang softened by vanilla and grounded in dark musk, with woody shading beneath the floral richness.

The nose

Jacques Flori, a perfumer associated with Robertet, is credited with Ylang Ylang Nosy Be Extrait. His work for Perris Monte Carlo reflects the house’s ingredient-led approach: giving a distinctive natural material room to express its complexity, with supporting accords shaping its texture and depth.

Collaborators

Gian Luca Perris helped shape the ingredient-led creative vision through the house’s collaboration with Robertet and its sourcing of ylang-ylang from Nosy Be. For the Extrait, he described a rebalanced composition with upgraded materials and more Ylang-Ylang Extra, intended to heighten the flower’s bright, solar character.

Perris Monte Carlo’s story

Perris Monte Carlo places raw materials and their origins at the center of its fragrances. The house combines traditional perfumery craftsmanship with modern extraction research, favoring compositions that reveal the complexity of fine natural ingredients rather than relying on elaborate storytelling or decorative luxury.

Ylang Ylang Nosy Be Extrait’s concept

The fragrance grew from a project exploring ylang-ylang cultivated on Nosy Be, an island near Madagascar. Rather than simply concentrating the earlier Eau de Parfum, the Extrait reworked its balance around more Ylang-Ylang Extra. Its defining pairing of ylang-ylang essential oil and jasmine absolute gives the floral core greater emphasis, while musk and vanilla deepen the surrounding texture.

Extra info

The name brings together two different terms: Ylang-Ylang Extra is a grade of the fragrant raw material, while Extrait de Parfum describes the finished perfume format. The Extrait was developed as a rebalanced interpretation of the Eau de Parfum, not merely the same formula with less alcohol.
