This edit is an excellent foray into the fantastic world of figs in fragrance. Ultimately, notes related to fig are not made with essences derived from the actual plant but are recreations (or fantasies!) made with certain chemical compounds. These compounds are part of the plant metabolism but are synthesised for perfumers’ needs. The key, and fairly old, material used is called Stemone® (a handy industry name for 5-Methyl-3-heptanone oxime) and there is also a certain type of lactone. The former is greener whilst the latter smells fruitier. Both compounds are quite sturdy and can survive in relatively harsh environments, such as burning candles and shower gels.

Perfumers are always trying to style the fig note chemicals in a more sophisticated manner (in comparison to room ambiance or bath products) by adding various natural extracts and other fancy synthetics.

This selection features perfumes, in which the fig note travels from the orchard to the jam jar. There are green and airy options as well as delicious patisserie and fig tart inspired blends.
