Patchouli Nosy Be Extrait - Perris Monte Carlo - Bloom Perfumery

Nosy Be... sounds like a motto for an inquisitive perfume lover. It is, however, the name of a tiny island north of Madagascar. It's an island specializing in the production of patchouli, ylang-ylang and other magical fragrance materials for the perfume industry.

Patchouli Nosy Be is a tribute to the tropical humid shade loving plant that when distilled lends an ambery, dark, leathery and almost chocolate aroma - patchouli.

Naturally, it's the precious patchouli from Nosy Be in the perfume in the company of dense vanilla, dusty schinus molle and dry sandalwood.

The EdP concentration has more focus on pink pepper and lemon in the opening. This way patchouli is a bit more spicy. Whereas, the extrait concentration of Patchouli Nosy Be has more vanilla and thus sweeter.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

For an evening that unfolds slowly, with conversation at close quarters: dark patchouli gives the sweetness an earthy edge, more bitter chocolate than confectionery. Its register is tactile and composed, suited to soft wool and an unhurried presence.

How to wear

Start with one or two sprays on skin, allowing the vanilla and patchouli to settle before adding more. Cool weather suits this dense, sweet-woody profile; in warm rooms, a lighter application keeps the richness measured. Apply beneath clothing for a more contained impression.

Who it’s for

For those who enjoy earthy patchouli softened by vanilla, but still want dry woods and spice beneath the sweetness. It favours rich, ambered textures over bright freshness, with a chocolate-like impression rather than an overtly confectionery character.

The nose

Jacques Flori is credited with Patchouli Nosy Be Extrait. Known for expressive, material-focused compositions such as Jovoy’s Psychedélique, he brings particular fluency to rich woody and ambery territory. Here, patchouli’s dark, earthy character is framed by vanilla sweetness and dry sandalwood.

Collaborators

Gian Luca Perris, the house’s founder and creative director, guided the Extrait collection’s creative direction. He presented the project as a reworking of four existing fragrances through rebalanced accords and upgraded raw materials, rather than a simple increase in concentration.

Perris Monte Carlo’s story

Perris Monte Carlo places craftsmanship and raw materials ahead of decorative luxury. Its fragrances explore ingredient origins, extraction methods and traditional perfume culture, combining respect for established techniques with technological innovation.

Patchouli Nosy Be Extrait’s concept

The fragrance takes its inspiration from patchouli cultivated on Nosy Be, northwest of Madagascar, beneath the shelter of ylang-ylang plants. Developed within a four-fragrance Extrait project, it revisits the original composition to reveal more of the material’s character, with a sweeter vanilla emphasis than the Eau de Parfum.

Extra info

Nosy Be is a real island northwest of Madagascar. The patchouli oil’s dark-chocolate nuance is part of the material’s own character, not proof of an added chocolate ingredient. This Extrait also belongs to a quartet of reworked Black Collection fragrances, alongside Rose de Taif, Ylang Ylang Nosy Be and Oud Imperial.
