Perfumer: Pierre Guéros
“ExpLOud marks the beginning of a new creative synergy: Laboratorio Olfattivo meets Pierre Guéros, perfumer at Symrise. This great traveller and connoisseur of Middle East immediately seduced us with his sensitivity, his human curiosity and his ability to establish an empathic contact with other cultures. Without hesitation, we entrusted him the mission of giving body to “our vision” of Oud. ExpLOud was born, as an aromatic explosion based on the most precious and luminous of Ouds, with floral notes to lift and twist the characteristic scent of this unique raw material which has already experienced numerous interpretations on the market”.

All about this fragrance
Vibe check
An animated conversation in a crowded room, with enough presence to register beyond the person beside you. Peppery spice and substantial oud give ExpLOud an assertive register, while its floral brightness keeps that intensity from feeling closed or sombre.
How to wear
Start with one or two sprays, allowing the powerful woody character to settle before adding more. Cooler weather suits its oud, spice and patchouli weight; in warmth or close indoor settings, apply sparingly. A light application lets the floral contrast show without allowing the woody base to dominate.
Who it’s for
For those who enjoy assertive woody fragrances but want more than a uniformly dark oud. It suits a taste for peppery spice, earthy patchouli and vetiver, with luminous floral notes providing contrast rather than turning the composition into a floral perfume.

The nose
Pierre-Constantin Guéros, credited here as Pierre Guéros, is a perfumer at Symrise whose international experience includes living and working in Dubai. His familiarity with Middle Eastern fragrance culture informed ExpLOud’s balance of substantial oud and luminous florals, bringing transparency to a deliberately powerful composition.
Collaborators
Roberto Drago shaped the creative brief, asking Guéros to interpret oud with a European twist. He selected the luminous floral direction over a marine trial, helping establish the contrast between woody intensity and floral openness that defines ExpLOud.
Laboratorio Olfattivo’s story
Laboratorio Olfattivo treats perfume as a space for independent artistic expression. Founded by Daniela Caon and Roberto Drago, the house gives perfumers creative freedom around ideas drawn from memories, journeys and emotions, keeping its packaging restrained so the composition remains the focus.
ExpLOud’s concept
ExpLOud began with a brief for an oud that felt luminous rather than uniformly dark. Guéros answered with a floral interpretation, using magnolia-like and Lilybelle facets to open up the woody core. Selected in 2019, the fragrance’s introduction was delayed by the pandemic before its 2021 launch in the Laboratorio in Nero collection.
Extra info
The working title was “Oud Explosion”; ExpLOud retains that idea while suggesting light within the oud. The official composition names two oud materials, Oud Ajmal and Oud Boya, alongside the modern woody-amber materials Ambrocenide and Ambrostar. Daniela Caon designed the packaging.
